Forestry Mulching.  The photos at the left and above are of a new, top-of-the-line Caterpillar 299D2 XHP Compact Track Loader, with a Denis Cimaf DAF180D mulching head with planer knives.  These knives have to be sharpened frequently, but this mulching head offers maximum performance in areas without rocky soil.  For areas with rocky soil, or where other debris may be encountered that would result in damage to the knives, a head with carbide teeth may be used.

Brush Cutting.  For areas with smaller growth, and for which a fine mulch is not necessary, a heavy-duty brush cutter may be a faster, more economical solution.  This cutter performs well with trees up to 4" thick (it will easily cut up to 8", but does not mulch the larger material as well as other heads).

Root Grapple.  Material can be raked up and piled using the root grapple attachment.  For mid-sized trees, stacking and burning may be more economical than mulching.

Tree Sawing.  A hydraulic feller buncher head, a mechanical tree saw, or a plain old chainsaw can be used in areas where trees need to be removed at ground level, but it is not desireable to have the ground covered with mulch or damaged by equipment.  This option would require much less time to return an overgrown field to pasture or for hay production.

Dirt work.  A power rake, buckets, or 6-way dozer blade can be used on the CTL for dirt work. For larger jobs, a Case 1150G dozer, a JCB 3CX14 backhoe, or a Volvo EC210CL excavator is available.  A rotary tiller and a land leveling drawn box scraper are also available for use on a 100-horsepower John Deere 5101E tractor.  A motorgrader attachment mounted on a Caterpillar 236B skid steer can be used to put a crest on gravel roads, and a vibratory roller compactor can be used to pack and smooth.  A 6X6 military dump truck is available as an off-road truck for moving material around your property if necessary.
